Facebook.

About Facebook.

Facebook is probably the most popular of all the social networking sites on the World Wide Web. And it is particularly relevant for older people, as it is the one place on the web where you can expect to find most members of your extended family. A lot of our members have Facebook accounts, but we have noticed an undercurrent of anxiety about how well Facebook protects privacy. We think these concerns are justified – not because Facebook is intentionally unsafe, but because Internet beginners do not know how to edit their privacy settings. In fact, it is not difficult to lock down your Facebook account for maximum privacy, but you have to be a fairly experienced user to understand whether what you have done is sufficient.

So we don’t want to discourage you from joining Facebook – but if you are relatively new to the Internet, we think you should ask for help when you sign up for Facebook, and ask for more help when you begin to use it.
